What’s Next? – Newsletter 1-12

What kind of society do we want after this period of upheaval and social division is behind us? What will our kids need?

In the future, I hope our societies:

  1. Become more pluralistic and peaceful, with effective social contracts (see Finland, Portugal, & Japan). Encourage peaceful coexistence among religious, language, and cultural groups.
  2. Prioritize livable compensation globally, and reasonable pay scales for corporate leadership.
  3. Offer practical primary education and imaginative play for kids. Make higher ed available as needed & cost-effective, integrating AI as a new toolbox. Focus on systemic thinking, leadership, and human-centered problem-solving.
  4. Provide universal health care.
  5. Reprioritize science and empirical knowledge as disciplines guiding everything from climate adaptation to manufacturing excellence to health care and space exploration.
  6. Build effective, participatory, and empowering governments, infrastructure, and technology.
  7. Achieve a global stand-down from military aggression.
  8. Replace economic extraction models with economic opportunity models. For example, shift incentives away from predatory users-as-product practices to user empowerment and employment opportunities. Replicate successful strategies. Return closer to nature and relent on unfettered industrial growth (e.g., pause on the data centers ’til the grid and water supplies can support them).
  9. And individually, that each of us finds opportunities to achieve personal health and fulfillment, and to encounter other people authentically and lovingly.
